CALLA LILY
When I saw this Calla Lily blooming in my mother-in-law’s California garden back in 1970, I couldn’t resist photographing it. The simplicity of the form combined with the sensuous feeling of the flower made for a wonderful photograph. As a young photographer in the 1960s and 70s, I was inspired by Edward Weston’s vegetables and Georgia O’Keeffe’s flowers so I was trying to emulate some of their famous art. These artists plus Ansel Adams, Wynn Bullock, and Alfred Stieglitz inspired me during my early days as a photographer.
